Vegas-to-SoCal high-speed rail project clears major hurdle The plan to build a high-speed train that will connect Las Vegas with Southern California took another important step this month.The massive transportation project by Brightline could begin as soon as this year, with an estimated completion plotted for around 2027.Last week, the Federal Rail Authority completed its environmental review for a portion of the project, and found "no significant impact" along one of the critical sections of the proposed track.The segment is located between Rancho Cucamonga and Victorville, with the tracks set to be built within the right of way of the 15 Freeway. Los Angeles man stole over $740,000 through SIM-swapping, social media scams A downtown Los Angeles man was found guilty of hacking into social media accounts and stealing around $740,000 through SIM-swapping scams.Amir Hossein Golshan, 24, pleaded guilty to one count of unauthorized access to a protected computer to obtain information, one count of wire fraud, and one count of accessing a computer to defraud and obtain value, according to the U.S. Attorney’s Office.Golshan faces up to 20 years in federal prison for the wire fraud count and up to five years in prison for each of the computer access counts.From at least April 2019 to February 2023, authorities said Golshan was responsible for multiple online schemes that defrauded hundreds of victims through social media scams, Zelle payment fraud, and Apple support impersonations.“In total, Golshan’s entire scheme caused approximately $740,000 in losses to hundreds of victims over several years,” officials said.One of the ways Goshan scammed his victims was through the practice of “SIM swapping.” The process...

Lanes blocked on Highway 101 due to crash (KRON) -- Two northbound lanes of Highway 101 were blocked Wednesday afternoon due to a crash, California Highway Patrol confirmed. The crash happened at Highway 101 and Dry Creek Road in Healdsburg. CHP believes five or six vehicles were involved in the crash. There were no fatalities as of 7 p.m. Wednesday, but a helicopter was used to take one victim to a hospital, CHP said. A Sig Alert has been issued for the crash.
